Diving Into Sketch
During our time testing UI Design software and wireframing tools in our latest design series, we found a few awesome productivity hacks inside of Sketch that we just can’t live without.
Here’s a list of the top seven Sketch plugins to increase your design productivity:
The first step to getting Sketch plugins is installing them, and there’s no better way to start than with the Sketch Toolbox plugin. Sketch Toolbox allows you to install future plugins much faster than Sketch’s default manual installation. It creates a search field that lists all current plugins in the Sketch plugin repository, and allows you to install them with one click.
Tired of looking through hundreds of stock images to find that one perfect headshot of a model? So are we. That’s why we started using Content Generator, the Sketch plugin that generates user profile images and user names in a snap. Content generator also creates placeholder text and random text strings, saving you time when designing.
In order to use icons, you typically have to open multiple icon font sites in different browser tabs, search their libraries, copy the desired icons, and paste them into your design. The Icon Font plugin streamlines this process. With Icon Font, Sketch gets a built-in search tool that allows you to search ALL of those font libraries directly within Sketch. It even auto pastes chosen icons into your design.
To find an industry-standard color swatch, you usually have to dig around a few sites, download your desired swatch, and manually upload the colors into your design. This plugin helps preload many of the industry’s top color schemes in seconds. Choose from Google Material Design, Apple iOS, and even Pantone color swatches with the help of Sketch Swatches.
If you’re a mobile-first designer like most of us here at Designzillas, you want to make sure that your designs look pixel-perfect on mobile screens. Sketch Mirror allows you to view your design artboard on a mobile device in live time. This means that as you make design changes, you’ll be able to instantly see them in real-time, on an actual phone environment. No more second guessing how your designs will transfer in the real world!
Don’t waste any more time copying and pasting lines and rectangles to create tables, when you can generate a table in SECONDS with this plugin. Sketch Material was made to streamline the process of creating the most cumbersome of detailed user interface elements, including: forms, dialog boxes, and even secondary menu tooltips.
To include a map in your design, typically you would: go to Google Maps, screenshot a searched location, and paste it in your design. However, once the map is pasted, you cannot edit it. You’re also stuck with the default Google Maps styling. This plugin allows you to generate a customizable map where you can change the size, location and style directly from within Sketch. There is no more need to exit the program, and refer to the browser for boring, default maps. Map Generator is also integrated with the beloved Snazzy Maps—a Google Maps style repository—which means you can change your map to one of over 13,000 styles with a single click.
